Esri India and Centre for Knowledge Sovereignty launch pilot programme to train students in geospatial technology skills. The Master Mentors Geo-enabling Indian Scholars aims to educate 5,00,000 students in the next five years. Aiming at fostering a research-oriented mindset, the program targets students from 8th grade to undergraduate level.
The online initiative will train students in geospatial thinking, with the pilot phase covering 1,000 students across India. The program also focuses on fostering an Intellectual Property framework to increase patent applications in geospatial technology. A S Kiran Kumar, Member, Space Commission, emphasized the importance of empowering young minds with geospatial technology knowledge.
The pilot program will commence in select schools and institutions, with plans for wider implementation starting June this year. With a commitment to preparing students for the digital age, the MMGEIS team aims to provide a transformative learning experience. Agendra Kumar from Esri India highlighted the significance of equipping students with geospatial skills for future challenges.
Vinit Goenka, Secretary of CKS, emphasized that mentorship from the program will change students’ approach towards education. With a focus on understanding and discovering new areas, India aims to become a global leader in innovation. The program signifies a step towards nurturing the next generation of geospatial innovators and leaders, preparing them for a positive impact on society.
