My unforgettable 72 hours with 5th Sarsanghchalak Sh Sudarshan ji

September 15, 2013

It was today last year when Sh Sudarshan ji left for us for heavenly abode. Kuppalli Sitaramayya Sudarshan was the fifth Sarsanghachalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from 2000 to 2009. Not many people know that Sh Sudarshan ji, a telecom engineer by education, was a Bal swayamsewak joined Shakha at a young age of nine.

I became lucky on 27th December 2007 in Dehradun at FINS (Forum for Integrated National Security) National Conclave where I had those 72 memorable hours with Hon. Sudarshan Ji. I was in the team of organisers South Asia’s biggest security conclave and this big responsibility came with a bigger reward. I got three days with Sudarshan ji who was meticulous and thorough in his interactions on security issues. He was the brightest star of the galaxy of top security experts in the sub-continent. The 150 participants ranged from vice air marshal to DG coast guard, from DIG to high court judges. The event was inaugurated by the then Governor of Uttarakhand and closed by Gen. Khanduri Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.

Sudarshan Ji’s mother tongue was Malyalam and he surprised with his fluent Marathi. He had command on multiple languages. This blog post today will not be complete if I don’t mention the incidence that took place during the dinner organised by the chief minister on the evening of 28th December. I had this huge privilege of sitting on the same table with Sh. Sudarshan ji for dinner. I couldn’t resist the temptation to request a photograph with him. In the excitement and enthusiasm I requested, “Sir aap ke sath ek photo lena kya pata mujhe phir mauka mile ya na mile. (Sir, can I have a photograph with you, who knows if I get this opportunity ever again)” He replied, “ye kah kar aap apni ya meri umr kam hone ki kamna kyon karte ho. Hamein milkar sau varshon tak Maan Bharti ki sewa karni hia. (By saying this why are you wishing to reduce your and my age. We have to serve our motherland for another hundred year.)”

Sh. Sudarshan ji’s dedication to serve the motherland grew with his age and his life is a model to follow for all the Swyamsewaks.
